Chat App to Mobile Commerce

No cash? No credit? No wallet? That's not a problem at all. As long as you have your smartphone, your "WeChat" app, and your "WeChat wallet" connected with your bank account information; then you are ready to go.

WeChat is a Chinese social media mobile application software developed by Tencent company, which originally designed to send text messages, hold-to-talk voice message, video conferencing, video games, sharing of photographs and videos and location sharing. But now, WeChat users who provided bank account information are able to pay bills, order goods and services, transfer money to other users and pay in stores if the warehouse has WeChat payment options.

In China, we have the tradition to hand out "Red Packet" to family and friends and offer their best wishes during the big festival or special date. We used to put cash in the red packet, but now we just need finger swipes on the screen, our family and friends can receive "Red Packet" and best wishes from us. Sounds cool, right? And it also helps us save the time to deposit cash in the bank or ATM.

Besides the essential features, think about it, your chat app could change your circle of friends into a small business circle or even more. You can sell your products or services through the app to your buddies. And your friends are able to forward your goods and services to his/her friends only need to click a button.

In WeChat, you can easily communicate with your clients, post your commercials on Moments(Moments is WeChat's brand name for its social feed of friends updates. Moments allows users to post images, post text, post comments, share music, share articles and post "likes." ); and most importantly, you can finish all the transactions in the app. If lucky enough, you may able to create a big name brand through your chat app!

Convenient, fast, bigger possibilities; these are all the charming of mobile commerce. Today, WeChat provides the world a whole new mobile commerce idea and provide us an opportunity to launch our own business.

According to resources, Facebook has also upgraded its Messenger with mobile payment features. Shortly, the chat app will change our living habits again. Would you expect to use mobile payment features in your chat app? Please comment below, let me know what do you think:)

  1. Very interesting post! You exactly explained the advantages of WeChat. I especially like the feature "Red Packet" and WeChat payment. Haha. :)

I want to mention another feature "stickers" which I often use for effective communication or for fun.
By the way, I heard Chinese students here in New York could also pay by WeChat in Chinese store and restaurants. Hope we all could pay by WeChat in U.S.A very soon.
